How OIS Works

Three distinct facets. One unified score. Each component is calculated independently then combined using weighted averages and opponent-adjusted multipliers.

🥊
Striking Impact

Measures the true damage and efficiency of a fighter's striking offense and defense. Goes beyond volume to weigh power, accuracy, and defensive shell quality.

Significant Strike %Knockdown RateAbsorption RateHead Defense %Power Output Index
🤼
Wrestling Impact

Evaluates control of the clinch, takedown entry, takedown defense, and time domination on the feet. Rewards cage control and aggressive wrestling initiatives.

Takedown %TD Defense %Clinch Control TimeCage PressureScramble Win Rate
🥋
Ground Impact

Grades positional dominance, submission threat rate, ground-and-pound efficiency, and the ability to advance or prevent advances in grappling exchanges.

OIS Formula
OIS = (STR×0.40 + WRE×0.30 + GND×0.30)
    × ImpactMult (0.85–1.15)
    × OppAdj (quality of opposition)
// Scores range 0–100 per fighter per fight
// Career OIS = rolling 5-fight weighted avg

Midwest UFC Analytics

OctagonImpact is an independent analytics operation dedicated to measuring what actually matters inside the octagon — not just stats, but true impact.

The OIS methodology was built out of frustration with surface-level fight coverage. Takedown numbers mean nothing without context. Strike counts ignore defense. We built a system that respects the sport's complexity.

Every score is derived from publicly available UFCStats.com data, run through our custom weighting model, and cross-validated against fight outcomes over a historical dataset of 2,400+ bouts.
